HIRING FOR 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR

RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered 3rd5th grade Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs across the elementary grades.

We are looking for an educator who is passionate about early intervention, individualized instruction, and helping students build strong academic and social-emotional foundations in partnership with families and staff.

Building Principal & Director of Student Services

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $44,000 - $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS:
Exempt

WORK CALENDAR: 167 days

FTE: 1.0

Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction, assessment support, and case management for students with disabilities in 3rd through 5th grade. This position focuses on individualized instruction, foundational academic skill development, and social-emotional growth while ensuring compliance with federal and state special education regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Support

* Provide direct, individualized, and small-group instruction aligned to student IEP goals

* Implement research-based literacy and math interventions

* Modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse learning needs

* Support students within general education classrooms as appropriate

* Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) when needed

Case Management

* Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state regulations

* Facilitate IEP meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

* Maintain accurate and timely documentation

* Monitor and report progress toward IEP goals

Collaboration & Communication

* Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices

* Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress

* Work with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, school psychologist)

* Participate in MTSS and problem-solving meetings

Assessment & Compliance

* Assist in evaluation and re-evaluation processes

* Collect and analyze student data to inform instructional decisions

* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements

Professional Responsibilities

* Maintain current licensure

* Participate in professional development

* Support building and district improvement initiatives

* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and IDEA

* Maintain required documentation and records

* CPI or district-approved de-escalation training required

* RE-1 Valley employees shall comply with standard practices and ethical conduct toward information and information technology, students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community. In conscientiously conducting his or her affairs, the employee shall exemplify the highest standards of professional commitment.

Education & Experience

* Bachelor's Degree or higher in Special Education preferred and will be given first consideration

* Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement in Special Education (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)

* Valid Colorado Department of Education License as Special Service Provider in the area of School Counselor or willing to work towards certification and able to obtain a Temporary Educator Eligibility as a School Counselor (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)

* Experience working with students with significant cognitive or developmental disabilities preferred

* Knowledge of IEP development and compliance requirements

* Experience with functional curriculum and life skills instruction preferred

* Knowledge of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems preferred

* CPI or crisis intervention training required

* Experience collaborating with related service providers

* Bilingual Skills preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of elementary child development and diverse learning needs

* Understanding of IDEA, IEP processes, and compliance requirements

* Skill in delivering targeted, evidence-based interventions

* Ability to differentiate instruction across grade levels (35)

* Strong collaboration and communication skills

* Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and timelines

* Strong data collection and progress monitoring skills
