RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered High School Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in grades 912.
We are looking for an educator who is committed to individualized instruction, collaboration, and preparing students for postsecondary success in college, career, and independent living.

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $44,000 - $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule
FLSA STATUS:
Exempt
WORK CALENDAR: 167 days
FTE: 1.0
Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The High School Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction, case management, and transition planning for students with disabilities in grades 912. The teacher ensures compliance with IDEA and state regulations while supporting students in meeting academic, behavioral, and postsecondary goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support
* Provide direct, individualized, and small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals
* Support students within general education classrooms through co-teaching or consultation
* Modify and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
* Implement behavior intervention plans as needed
* Support students in developing executive functioning and self-advocacy skills
Case Management & Compliance
* Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with IDEA and state regulations
* Facilitate IEP meetings and maintain required documentation
* Monitor and report student progress toward IEP goals
* Participate in evaluation and re-evaluation processes
Transition Planning
* Develop and implement transition plans beginning at age 15 (or as required by state law)
* Support students in career exploration, college readiness, and independent living skills
* Collaborate with community agencies and postsecondary institutions as appropriate
Collaboration & Communication
* Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers
* Participate in MTSS, IEP, and 504 meetings
* Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
* Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals when assigned
Professional Responsibilities
* Maintain current licensure
* Participate in professional development
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and IDEA
* Support building and district improvement initiatives

Education & Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
* Currently hold a Colorado Special Education teaching license or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement in Special Education (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
* Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
* Knowledge of IEP development and compliance requirements
* Experience working with secondary students preferred
* Experience with functional curriculum and life skills instruction preferred
* CPI or crisis intervention training required
* Experience collaborating with related service providers
* Bilingual skills preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of IDEA and IEP compliance requirements
* Understanding of secondary curriculum and graduation requirements
* Skill in delivering differentiated and research-based interventions
* Ability to support transition planning and postsecondary readiness
* Strong data collection and progress monitoring skills
* Strong collaboration and communication skills
* Ability to manage timelines and multiple case management responsibilities
Working Conditions
* Classroom setting
* Occasional evening events (parent conferences, school activities)
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Colorado Teacher Evaluation System.
