HIRING FOR 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR

RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Middle School Social Studies Teacher to engage students in learning about history, geography, civics, and culture. We are looking for an educator who promotes critical thinking, civic responsibility, and an understanding of the world while helping students build strong research and analytical skills.

POSITION DETAILS
  • Reports To: Principal
  • Salary Range & Category: $44,000 – $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Work Calendar: 167 days
  • FTE: 1.0
  • Schedule: Full‑time with benefits; 4‑day school week (Tuesday – Friday)
POSITION SUMMARY

The Middle School Social Studies Teacher provides engaging, standards‑based instruction that helps students understand history, geography, economics, and civics. The teacher fosters critical thinking, historical inquiry, and civic awareness while preparing students for high school coursework and responsible citizenship.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards for Social Studies
  • Teach topics including history, geography, civics, economics, and cultural studies
  • Incorporate primary and secondary sources to support historical inquiry
  • Facilitate discussions that promote critical thinking and respectful dialogue
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
Assessment & Data
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments
  • Analyze student performance data to guide instruction
  • Provide feedback on research, projects, and written assignments
  • Maintain accurate records of grades and student progress
Classroom Environment
  • Establish a safe, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment
  • Encourage student engagement and inquiry‑based learning
  • Maintain clear expectations and routines
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with grade‑level and department teams
  • Participate in MTSS, IEP, and 504 meetings as needed
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain current licensure
  • Participate in professional development
  • Support district and building improvement initiatives
  • Follow district policies and procedures
  • Comply with standard practices and ethical conduct toward information, students, colleagues, school officials, parents, and community members, exemplifying the highest standards of professional commitment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, History, Political Science, Education, or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement, or ability to obtain (additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed‑upon timeframe)
  • Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
  • Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards for Social Studies
  • Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills required
  • Experience teaching middle school social studies
  • Experience with inquiry‑based learning and project‑based instruction
  • Ability to integrate primary sources and research‑based activities
  • Experience incorporating technology into instruction
  • Bilingual skills preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong knowledge of social studies content and historical thinking skills
  • Ability to teach research, analysis, and critical thinking
  • Skill in facilitating discussions on complex topics
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Colorado Teacher Evaluation System.
