HIRING FOR 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR

RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Middle School Social Emotional Learning Specialist to support students in grades 68 in developing the social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary for academic and personal success.

We are looking for a professional who understands adolescent development and can support students through the unique academic and social transitions of middle school.

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $46,634 - $69,796 on Teacher Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS:
Exempt

WORK CALENDAR: 177 days

FTE: 1.0

Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)

Position Summary

The Middle School SEL Specialist supports students in grades 68 by promoting social-emotional development, positive behavior, and a safe school climate. This role focuses on prevention, early intervention, and collaboration within the MTSS framework to address academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide direct SEL instruction in classrooms and small groups
  • Support students in developing self-regulation, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
  • Assist with behavior intervention plans and progress monitoring
  • Facilitate restorative conversations and problem-solving meetings

Systems & Program Implementation

  • Support implementation of school wide SEL curriculum
  • Assist with PBIS and MTSS frameworks
  • Analyze behavior and attendance data to guide interventions
  • Monitor and support Tier II and Tier III interventions

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and teachers
  • Participate in MTSS, IEP, and 504 meetings as appropriate
  • Communicate with families regarding student support strategies
  • Connect families to community mental health resources when needed

School Climate & Culture

  • Support positive school culture initiatives
  • Assist with prevention programming related to bullying, peer conflict, and digital citizenship
  • Promote student leadership and accountability

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA
  • Participate in professional development
  • Support district and building improvement goals
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records
  • CPI or district-approved de-escalation training required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of adolescent development (ages 11-14)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative practices
  • Skill in facilitating small groups and classroom lessons
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict and support behavior regulation
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze behavior and attendance data
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
  • Master's Degree in Counseling preferred and will be given first consideration
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education License as Special Service Provider in the area of School Counselor or willing to work towards certification and able to obtain a Temporary Educator Eligibility as a School Counselor (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
  • Experience working with middle school students
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and behavior support systems
  • Experience with PBIS and MTSS frameworks preferred
  • Training in restorative practices preferred
  • Experience teaching explicit SEL lessons preferred
  • Bilingual skills preferred
