Hiring for 2026/2027 School Year

RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a passionate and student‑centered High School English Language Arts Teacher to join our secondary team. We are looking for an educator who inspires a love of reading and writing while preparing students for college, career, and civic life.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a commitment to fostering critical thinking, communication skills, and student engagement.

Reports to: Building Principal

Salary Range & Category: $44,000 - $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Calendar: 167 days

FTE: 1.0

Full-time with benefits; 4‑day school week (Tuesday‑Friday)

Position Summary

The High School English Language Arts Teacher provides high-quality instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards. The teacher develops students' skills in reading comprehension, analytical writing, research, speaking, and critical thinking while preparing them for postsecondary success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver standards‑based instruction in literature, composition, grammar, and research
  • Teach analytical reading and writing across multiple genres
  • Provide explicit instruction in academic vocabulary and writing structure
  • Design lessons that promote critical thinking and discussion
  • Integrate technology appropriately to enhance instruction
Assessment & Data
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments
  • Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions
  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback on student work
  • Prepare students for state assessments and postsecondary readiness
Classroom Environment
  • Establish a safe, respectful, and academically focused classroom
  • Maintain clear expectations and routines
  • Encourage student voice and civil discourse
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with department and grade‑level teams
  • Participate in PLCs and school improvement efforts
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress
  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as needed

  • Support district initiatives and improvement goals
  • Follow district policies and procedures
  • Comply with standard practices and ethical conduct toward information and information technology, students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and community members. Exemplify the highest standards of professional commitment.

  • Strong content knowledge in literature and composition
  • Skill in teaching writing across multiple modes and purposes
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process (additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed‑upon timeframe)
  • Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
  • Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards for English Language Arts
  • Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
  • Experience teaching high school ELA
  • Experience with AP, concurrent enrollment, or honors coursework
  • Knowledge of structured writing instruction and literacy strategies
  • Experience using data to guide instruction
  • Bilingual skills preferred
