Janitor - Sterling Heights, Michigan

Temp-to-Hire Role - Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

First Shift Position: 6:00am - 2:00pm Monday - Friday

If selected for role, 10-panel drug test and criminal background check must be completed and have favorable results

The job scope is to perform and oversee a variety of janitorial and custodial tasks and to maintain clean and safe buildings and grounds.

• Wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms
• Clean floors, sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators in break rooms
• Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and common areas
• Sweeps, vacuums, and mops floor. Run Floor Scrubber nightly
• Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary. Monitor through the nigh
• Observes appearances and conditions of premises and equipment; reports repairs as needed, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor service
• Polishes furniture, metal work, and chrome using appropriate cleaning and polishing compounds
• Maintains an inventory of cleaning and toiletry supplies
• Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Alerts Management when equipment becomes unusable
• Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, mirrors, and fixtures using both step and extension ladders
• Cleans grounds and parking lot of litter, glass, or other debris
• Ensures walkways are clean and free of obstacles
• Cleans the outside of machines, wiping all grease and markings daily
• Mops all fluids that may appear during the shift from all machines
• Monitors chip hoppers and cleans away chip build-up from conveyor
• Maintains a solid working relationship with maintenance to alert them to conditions that need attention from skilled trades personnel
• Performs related work as assigned by Shift Supervisor or other management personnel
• Proper labeling, dilution, and use of all chemicals
• Must participate in 5S responsibilities
• Must engage in small teams
• Performs other related duties as required

• Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the janitorial service
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules
• Basic knowledge of cleaning products or willing to learn
• Good client/customer service skills
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, supplies such as floor buffers, vacuums, and cleaning compounds and solutions
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work effectively with a team
• Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort
• High School Diploma or GED
• The job duties require an employee to bend, reach, and stand for extended periods
