Plant Controls Engineer / Automation Specialist - Manufacturing
Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Fully Onsite)
Pay Rate: $42.30 per hour
Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM (Overtime Required - up to 20 hours/week)

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer / Automation Technician to support advanced manufacturing operations in Sterling Heights, MI. This role focuses on PLC programming, robotics troubleshooting, automation systems, and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement improvements to control systems and automation equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data
- Lead root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting for equipment performance issues
- Program and reprogram PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rexroth) and robotic systems
- Support integration of controls into IT systems including FIS, error proofing, QWX, and QTS
- Monitor cycle times and optimize production performance using plant monitoring software
- Maintain automation program backups and support new equipment installations
- Participate in equipment safety reviews and risk assessments
- Train manufacturing personnel and maintenance teams
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5+ years of experience in PLC programming, automation, robotics, and manufacturing controls
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Siemens Step 7, TIA Portal, Fanuc controls, and Lean Manufacturing tools
- Familiarity with UL508A and NFPA
79 standards - Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering;
Six Sigma, 8D, 5
