Job Title: System Safety Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI – Onsite
Position Type: Contract
Pay Rate: $59.00 – $66.00 per hour (Based on experience)
Contract Professionals, Inc. is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to support advanced military ground vehicle programs undergoing digital modernization. This role integrates System Safety Engineering within a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environment to ensure safety compliance across hardware and software systems throughout the full product lifecycle.
The selected candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to conduct safety analyses, define mitigation strategies, manage requirements traceability, and deliver required safety documentation to the customer.
Responsibilities- Evaluate customer System Safety requirements and assess vehicle compliance
- Support development of system and software architectures with integrated safety considerations
- Conduct System Safety analyses and provide recommendations for design solutions and changes
- Prepare and document safety analysis reports
- Support development of the System Specification Document
- Define, manage, and validate safety requirement traceability
- Develop and manage Hazard Tracking Systems (HTS), Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHA), and Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA)
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements and system specifications
- Develop and complete required safety CDRLs for customer submission
- Manage end-to-end hazard mitigation traceability for assigned systems
- Maintain Hazard Logs, Risk Registers, and Human/System Interface databases
- Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to identify safety hazards and mitigation strategies
- Conduct peer reviews of safety work products prior to release
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- 7+ years of System Safety experience (advanced degree may reduce required years)
- Experience developing hazard analyses, safety concepts, safety cases, and mitigation strategies
- Experience managing safety requirements traceability and validation test cases for safety-critical systems
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, ARP-4761A, and Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook
- Experience developing safety requirements using MBSE within a Systems Engineering V-Model framework
- Experience with Cameo or similar MBSE modeling tools
- Experience with DOORS, Teamcenter, JIRA, Confluence, or similar requirements management tools
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to meet anthropometric size requirements for confined space
- Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required
- Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline
- Experience developing safety strategy across System, Logical, and Physical architectures
- Defense industry experience; automotive or aerospace safety experience considered
- Experience with High Voltage and Autonomous embedded systems
- Experience in Human Factors and Ergonomics integration
- Familiarity with Functional Failure Analysis
- Experience working within Agile and Systems Engineering V-Model methodologies
