About the Role
General Dynamics Land Systems is seeking Harness Design Engineer in our Sterling Heights, MI facility. The role will focus on designing and coordinating electrical wiring harness systems, including schematics, layouts, and installations, while ensuring compliance with environmental and performance standards. Responsibilities include tracking design progress, supporting fabrication and installation, and driving process improvements to deliver high-quality solutions on time.

- 9-80 Work Schedule (This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.)

- Coordinate the harness design execution to support multiple products. This includes harness schematic maturity, harness routings, harness drawings, harness installations, harness interconnects, and harness electrical wiring diagrams.
- Lead the development and documentation of component and subsystem requirements for the electrical harness system. Design electrical wiring harnesses to include component selection for connectors, back shells, sleeving, braiding, sealants, boots, transitions, etc.
- Determine harness layout through vehicle and branch points for multi-branch harnesses.
- Design to environmental requirements for temperature, shock, vibration, submergence and exposure to harsh chemicals.
- Work directly in Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, specifically in Harness XC, Capital Logic and Capital Topology.
- Develop harness components to meet key performance and timing targets by working collaboratively with Product Engineering, EMC, Systems Engineering, Packaging Analysis, Design Services, Planning, and Program teams.
- Work with Systems Engineers to define whole vehicle pin-level interconnect.
- Work with Physical Architects to define harness routing channels and space claims in the vehicle.
- Work with Senior Engineers on the overall packaging design of harnesses and selection of components.
- Work with a team of engineers to accomplish program objectives.
- Responsible for tracking harness design progress and presenting to key stakeholders.
- Ensure the harness design and interfaces are defined and designed in adherence to engineering standard work for the purpose of on-time high-quality delivery.
- Support continuous process improvement, best practices, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support harness fabrication and vehicle installation build.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- 3+ years' work experience is desired in an engineering role.
- Experience with Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, specifically in Harness XC, Capital Logic and Capital Topology.
- Ability to balance cost/schedule/technical priorities.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio desirable.
- Experience with Pro-E Creo desirable.
- Experience with NX desirable.
- Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use Engineering Development and Test Tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and record keeping.
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in MS Office suite.
- This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
- Previous experience with ground combat Vehicle environment is a plus.
- Able to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills is required. Works well in team and individually.
