Data Scientist position available in Stellenbosch.

PBT Group is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Data Scientist to join a high-impact, data-driven environment based in Stellenbosch.

This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong, analytically minded professional with solid academic foundations in quantitative or data-related disciplines.

The role will involve working with data to generate insights, support decision-making, and contribute to the development of analytical and predictive solutions within a fast-paced business context.

Minimum Requirements:

• Junior to Mid-Level experience in Data Science / Analytics / Machine Learning
• Strong academic background in a quantitative field such as:
• Data Science
• Statistics / Mathematical Statistics
• Mathematics / Applied Mathematics
• Actuarial Science
• Computer Science
• Engineering (quantitative disciplines)
• Physics or similar analytical fields
• Solid understanding of:
• Statistical concepts
• Data analysis techniques
• Data manipulation and modelling

Technical Skills (Preferred):

Exposure to or working knowledge of:

• Python (highly preferred)
• SQL / Data querying
• Machine Learning fundamentals
• Data visualisation / analysis tools
• Data preparation and feature engineering

Experience with common libraries / frameworks (advantageous but not mandatory):

• Pandas / Num Py
• Scikit-learn
• Jupyter / notebooks
• Power BI or similar tools

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform exploratory data analysis and data interpretation
• Develop analytical models and data-driven insights
• Work with structured and unstructured datasets
• Support business problem-solving using quantitative techniques
• Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams
• Contribute to continuous improvement of data solutions

• Possess strong academic training in quantitative disciplines
• Are early in their Data Science career but technically capable
• Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Are comfortable working onsite in Stellenbosch
• Show curiosity, learning agility, and attention to detail
