Associate Professor position (Post Level
6), Tygerberg Campus. /303/1125.
The Department of Nursing and Midwifery at Stellenbosch University (SU) offers undergraduate, as well as postgraduate education programmes in several specialty areas. We are committed to facilitating knowledge and skills development of our students to support safe, competent practice of nursing in local and national contexts. The Department seeks to appoint an Associate Professor to support learning and teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research and social impact activities.
Duties- Teaching, learning and assessment of allocated undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of programmes, curriculum review and curriculum building activities.
- Research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate (master's and doctoral) students as allocated.
- Conducting own research, disseminating research outputs and translating knowledge.
- Providing collaborative leadership to develop and implement a departmental research strategy.
- Participating in social impact projects and service delivery, and rendering appropriate services in the institution, Faculty and Department context where required.
- Securing research grants and contributing to other revenue streams.
- Participating in national and international meetings, committees, conferences, papers and projects.
- Participating in the internationalisation efforts of the institution and Department.
- Participating in departmental committee structures and research capacity building.
- Coaching and mentoring of junior staff.
- Academic and programme management and administration.
- Participating in and contributing to the quality assurance of the allocated programmes.
- PhD on NQF Level 10 in Nursing.
- Registration with the SANC as a professional nurse and midwife, nurse educator, assessor and moderator.
- Candidates must be in good standing, with a satisfactory performance record.
- At least four years' teaching experience with undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes in an academic tertiary institution.
- At least five years' recent clinical and/or professional experience.
- Evidence of successful external and/or internal research funding as a primary or co‑investigator.
- Evidence as an external examiner for master's and doctoral students.
- Record of successful research supervision of masters' and doctoral students.
- Proven research and publication record in journals (at least 15–20).
- Evidence of participation in national committees, boards, forums and councils.
- Involvement in internationalisation collaborative activities, projects, research or boards.
- Proven leadership ability.
- Additional qualification(s) in a clinical nursing programme as registered with the SANC.
- Demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
- Proven record of securing international research grants.
- Demonstrated leadership within the current Department or Faculty, including mentoring junior academics, contributing to transformation initiatives, and serving on institutional or national committees.
- Evidence of community engagement or social impact initiatives that integrate teaching, research and service in ways that advance public health and nursing practice.
- Demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, including curriculum design, use of contemporary pedagogical approaches and development of a comprehensive teaching portfolio.
