The role
Senior Accountant is a member of the accounting team. This position is responsible for performing internal accounting duties and maintaining financial records for YVEA and its subsidiaries. The Senior Accountant contributes to the company's success by ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and contributing to a collaborative, cohesive, and efficient team.
Key responsibilities- Maintains, reconciles, and analyzes subsidiary and general ledger accounts.
- Performs various monthly and year-end closing tasks.
- Maintains the ongoing accuracy of continuing property records.
- Researches and resolves discrepancies, maintains work papers.
- Assists with work order review and reconciliation.
- Reviews the work of accounting team members as directed.
- Assists with the preparation of audit work papers and schedules, and provides support to the outside auditors as needed.
- Assists with monthly, quarterly and annual reporting as needed.
- Assists with annual budget process as needed.
- Attends appropriate training and conferences as needed for continuous learning.
- Makes recommendations to enhance efficiency of accounting processes and improve internal controls.
- Demonstrate knowledge of company rules and regulations, policies, and operating procedures; shows good judgment as to when and how to apply applicable governing principles.
- Ability to perform and cross-train on all accounting and payroll tasks and serve as back-up when needed.
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Ability to adjust to multiple, shifting priorities and adapt to change.
- Ability to independently resolve problems, research information, create solutions, and make decisions based on facts and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a related field is required.
- Three to five years of experience in accounting or a relevant field required.
- Experience processing payroll, AP, and work orders is preferred.
- Experience with electric utility accounting and the governing regulations and accounting requirements under the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) preferred.
Candidates must pass a drug screen, excluding THC.
