Please note:

This is a part‑time, 28‑hour per week fixed‑term contract position that is set to conclude in August 2027.

About the Role

Reporting to the Placement Manager, the Placement Officer elicits, obtains, and makes experiential learning placements leading to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification for Faculty of Education (FOE) students.

Placement Officer Responsibilities
  • Ensure each placement meets division and subject area needs of students.
  • Ensure appropriate match of student to placement, working with faculty advisors, the placement manager and directors to address specific needs as required.
  • Communicate regularly with students and with faculty advisors involved with placement supervision.
  • Seek placements in the Ontario public school system, including alternative, out‑of‑region, outdoor, museum, and international organizations.
  • Ongoing communication with schools, school board personnel, and other organizations to recruit associate teachers, ensure expectations are understood, and determine suitability of placements.
  • Attend meetings, with, and provide reports to, organizations related to placements.
  • Ensure the smooth, coordinated, and efficient operation of the placement process.
  • Develop and monitor process and criteria for FOE placements, in consultation with relevant partners.
  • Develop expectations and responsibilities of alternative placement with the placement manager and FOE directors.
  • Develop and refine placement and practice for approval by the Placement Manager.
  • Collaborate with the placement manager, practicum advisors, directors, and the university Student Accessibility Services Office to ensure optimal placement outcomes.

This is a Monday‑Friday position that is required to work on campus.

Key Skills and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Education and a current or past certification with the Ontario College of Teachers, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant experience with education administration.
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Education and Ontario College of Teachers guidelines for student placements.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario public school system and alternative educational organizations.
  • Knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of experiential learning and curricular learning.
  • Ability to gain cooperation with stakeholders both inside and outside the university using persuasion and influence.
  • Service‑oriented with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to facilitate and negotiate.
  • Ability to work creatively and take initiative.
  • Ability to identify problems and deal with difficult situations by probing for information, analyzing complex issues and developing solutions for unique situations.
  • Ability to multi‑task to meet competing priorities daily, i.e., demonstrates exceptional organizational skills and can handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously under minimal supervision.
Preferred or Asset Skills
  • Graduate degree in Education.
