Equipment Operator II-Streets

The City of Staunton's Public Works Department is seeking an Equipment Operator II to join its team in the Streets Division. The successful candidate performs manual labor and operates medium and heavy duty equipment in the construction, repair and maintenance of City streets. Equipment includes utility truck, dump truck, boom truck, air compressor, backhoe. Performs on-call, after-hours emergency services on a rotational basis.

Services and makes minor repairs to equipment. Experience in the operation of construction equipment with similar duties, Virginia Class B CDL with tanker endorsement, flagger certification, and knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations preferred. Strong proven work ethic, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, work independently and with a crew required. Applicants with a CDL but without the tanker endorsement will be given 2 months to obtain the endorsement.

Applicants with competitive work experience without CDL will be given 6 months from hire to obtain CDL with tanker endorsement. Ability to perform heavy physical labor in all types of weather and eventually perform standby duty required. $19.15/hr (+) excellent benefits, including health insurance and retirement.
