Overview
The infantry is the main land combat force and backbone of the Army. It’s also the starting point for many advanced schools such as:
Special Forces, Airborne School, Ranger School, Sniper School, and Pathfinder School.
- Defend the country against any threat by land
- Capture, destroy and repel enemy ground forces during combat
Those who want to serve must first take (ASVAB), a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.
TrainingEnlistees attend Infantry One Station Unit Training for 14 weeks, which primarily takes place in the field, as well as the classroom.
During training, they will list their specific infantry job preferences, although assignments are determined by the needs of the Army. Upon graduation from One Station Unit Training, they are assigned to one of the following infantry specialties:
- Infantryman (11B)
- Indirect Fire Infantryman (11C)
- Possess tremendous discipline and high morale
- Readiness to accept a challenge and face danger
- Interest in light weapons and ground tactics
- Ability to remain calm under stressful situations
