Our client is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager for their facility located in Staunton, Virginia. This position plays a key role in supporting manufacturing operations, driving product costing accuracy, and strengthening cost visibility across the business. The Cost Accounting Manager will lead cost analysis, inventory accounting, standard cost development, and operational reporting in a hands‑on, collaborative environment.
This role is ideal for candidates with strong manufacturing cost accounting experience who want to influence operational decision‑making and improve financial processes.
Position OverviewThe Cost Accounting Manager will oversee standard cost development, variance analysis, and inventory accounting while partnering closely with operations, supply chain, and finance. This individual will provide actionable insights into labor, material, and overhead costs and will lead the continuous improvement of cost processes, data accuracy, and reporting systems. The role is hybrid in Staunton, VA and offers strong visibility within the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development, maintenance, and analysis of standard costs, bills of material, and routing structures
- Perform detailed variance analysis for materials, labor, overhead, and production efficiency
- Manage inventory accounting, including cycle counts, reconciliations, and valuation
- Partner with plant operations to understand production metrics and cost drivers
- Provide cost modeling and analysis to support pricing, margin improvement, and decision‑making
- Support month‑end close, journal entries, and cost‑related reporting
- Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting for cost‑related items
- Improve cost accounting processes, controls, and data accuracy
- Collaborate with supply chain, operations, and FP&A teams on financial insights and reporting
- Support internal and external audit requirements related to inventory and costs
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- 5–10+ years of cost accounting or manufacturing accounting experience
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis
- Hands‑on experience in manufacturing or plant‑based environments required
- Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to work cross‑functionally and present cost insights to operational leaders
