Lab Technician

Job Description

As a QC Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of rubber batches by conducting tests every three minutes using specialized machines. You will be responsible for identifying  red fails  and making informed decisions to halt production when necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure product meets quality specifications and perform required tests per the quality procedures and customer specifications.
  • Conduct and record soap concentration tests as scheduled, and notify Maintenance if adjustments are necessary.
  • Visually inspect each batch and report inconsistencies, unusual conditions, or any process changes/problems to the Lab Supervisor.
  • Place non-conforming materials on hold, enter information into the database, and tag and quarantine the material.
  • Perform calibration checks and adjustments on lab test instruments in accordance with the calibration schedule.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of lab instruments, as required.
  • Maintain a supply of spare and replacement parts.
  • Fill in for absent lab technicians when requested or needed.
  • Ensure personal safety by verifying that the area and equipment are safe before proceeding with duties.
  • Check all safety equipment and follow all facility safety rules and procedures, wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to Lock‑out/Tag‑out procedures when equipment is down for repair or cleaning.
  • Clean tools and maintain identified tool boards, keeping the workstation and surrounding area clean and organized.
  • Keep equipment in safe operating condition and report problems to the Maintenance department.
  • Participate in the training of new Associates as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Perform any other project/task as assigned by Management.
Essential Skills

  • Analytical thinking, including density, tensile, and moisture testing.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Aptitude in chemistry with knowledge of quality procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Good computer/systems skills – MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook).
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
  • Ability to visually identify color differences and check material for contaminants or inconsistencies.
  • Good cooperation and collaboration skills.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • High degree of concentration with attention to detail and self‑motivation.
  • Ability to manage demands and deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events through organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to coach and train Associates with a minimum of one year of experience as a Lab Technician.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent is desired. Successful completion of Competency Assessment may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Three years of laboratory testing experience with testing equipment and testing methods or equivalent.
  • Ability to interact well with all personality types.
Work Environment

The role involves working in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to light dust, fumes, high noise levels, and varying temperatures in the production area. Physical demands include standing and walking throughout the workday and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Currently, the position involves working 10‑12 hour shifts (4x10s or 7‑7) for training, with a goal to transition to standard 5‑day, 8‑hour shifts (6:45 AM - 3 PM for the first shift, 2:45 PM - 11 PM for the second shift).

Pay And Benefits
