- Ability to fuse or mechanically splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, including termination of various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC).
- Work with headend engineers and/or OSP project managers to perform fusion splicing as directed or needed.
- Read fiber documentation and interpret fiber descriptors such as colors and numbers, and properly identify and access fibers in existing enclosure.
- Install various types of fiber enclosures and term panels with fiber.
- Identify different types of connectors at term panels.
- Install CWDM/DWDM filters into fiber paths and differentiate between one‑fiber and two‑fiber solutions.
- Use a fiber optic scope and/or a fiber OTDR to view footage, recognize high‑loss or high‑reflective events, and check proper wavelength.
- Use an optical power meter, selecting proper wavelength, dB/dBm settings, and achieving proper light levels.
- Install and dress fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
- Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity, including splice enclosure, splicing, and path documentation.
- Maintain fiber asset inventory and keep fusion splicers clean.
- Keep truck and fiber trailer clean and orderly.
- Maintain fiber documentation for each market.
- Create cut sheets for fiber splicing.
- Work with contractor partners for in‑field support.
- Support local markets in the SE Region with fiber restorations.
- Be on call for all fiber restoration support throughout the SE Region.
- Assist with training best practices in fiber splicing and restoration.
- Perform full market fiber optic audits.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
- Work well with both in‑house and contractor labor.
- Know aerial and underground fiber plant construction.
- Demonstrate excellent project‑management skills, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Complete the company self‑progression education.
