POSITION SUMMARY:
An Assistant Spray Technician works with the Spray Technician under the direction of the Landscape Services Supervisor and is responsible for assisting in mixing and applying pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers to trees, shrubs, ornamental plants, turf grass, and outside areas.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Valid Driver License.
- At least one year of experience as applying pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
- Basic knowledge of pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers and their applications.
- Basic computer skills, including internet browsing, emails, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Ability to read and interpret pesticide and/or chemical labels with assistance.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Basic ability to identify common pests and weeds found in the Southeastern United States with input from supervisors or the Spray Technician.
- Ability to research or inquire about common chemicals used to control common pests and weeds found in the Southeastern United States in order to ascertain the most appropriate cermichals to apply for each given situation.
- Ability to operate hand held sprayers and mechanized spray buggies.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions from the Spray Technician or supervisors to accurately, safely, and lawfully apply pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and repairs on equipment used to apply pesticides.
- Ability to perform manual labor both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to interpret demands and organize responses in a fast paced and ever changing work environment.
- Experience working with a diverse group of people.

- Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid pesticide applicators license recognized by the State of Georgia.
- Mixes pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers independently or with assistance from the Spray Technician or supervisors.
- Applies pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to sports fields and outdoor landscaped areas as instructed by the Spray Technician or supervisors.
- Reads and interprets chemical labels, with or without assistance, to determine targeted pests, rate of application, and related information necessary to accurately apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
- Operates spray buggies, tractors, and handheld application devices used to apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
- Utilizes a variety of handheld and power tools while performing daily tasks including the maintenance of equipment.
- Adheres to chemical storage requirements.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance to equipment.
- Receives and completes tasks via work orders. Records information on work orders for record keeping purposes.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
