National Power is accepting applications to fill an in‑house Generator Service Technician opening in our State College, PA market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
SummaryNational Power is hiring a Generator Service Technician to work on generator sets and electrical equipment, ensuring reliability and safety across the company’s operations.
Responsibilities- Perform maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5‑5000 kW, troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches (including bypass isolation and closed‑transition types), perform preventive maintenance service (oil and filters), ранить AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components, execute warranty work per manufacturer guidelines, and perform start‑up/commissioning on new generators and generator systems.
- Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair, including ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, and other engine-related tasks.
- Conduct load‑bank testing on generators to ensure units operate within code requirements.
- Assist other technicians with large, multi‑person jobs or complex troubleshooting.
- HS Diploma required;
Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred. - Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
- Experience as US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator/UPS field service technician preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to give verbal and written reports on job status, repair recommendations, and equipment needs.
- Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
- Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license; willing to drive long distances, work evenings, weekends, and overnight stays. Company covers travel costs and provides meal allowances.
- Good computer skills, comfortable with Microsoft Office and PDF software.
- Can work from home, maintain vehicle and parts inventory, ensure security of company property (cell phone, laptop, specialty tools).
- Mange difficult customer situations, respond promptly, solicit feedback, meet commitments.
- Strong problem‑solving during emergenciesaneet resources.
- Open to required training courses, including trips to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and commitment to quality and safety.
- Required to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
- Lift and carry heavy objects up to 75 lb.
- Ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and ramps.
- Use hands and arms to grasp, turn, or otherwise manipulate items.
- Enter text or data via keyboard.
- Work on hand or knee support to enter confined spaces.
- Use one or both feet/legs to operate machinery controls such as pedals and levers.
- Maintain clear vision for small objects and reading small print / computer screen.
- Sit for extended periods and occasionally move about on hands and knees.
- Competitive pay based on experience and certification; overtime paid at 1.5 × base.
