Overview

Foxdale Village, a life plan community guided by Quaker values, is a non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located in State College, PA. Foxdale was founded in 1985 by members of the State College Friends Meeting and is founded on the values of treating all with dignity and respect. Foxdale is regarded as a premiere healthcare facility both locally and nationally and has been voted "Best Retirement Community in State College, PA" for over a decade.

Foxdale Village includes 57 apartments and 148 cottages and offers a range of health services with 46 beds in skilled nursing for short and long-term care, two memory care neighborhoods, and 55 beds in personal care, all with private accommodations.

We are seeking regular part-time Wait Staff (waiter/waitress) to work as part of our dedicated Dining Services Team. Wait staff work 4p-8p shifts and must be available to work every other weekend and participate in holiday work rotation. As a regular part-time employee, staff will be scheduled approximately 20 hours per week. This position is paid a competitive hourly rate, based upon experience, and as such does not offer tips/gratuities as part of the compensation package.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for taking all resident food orders and effectively and efficiently delivering food and beverages in a positive and professional manner. Proactively check to ensure residents enjoy their dining experience and take action to correct any problems; promote a clean, safe, pleasant, and neat dining environment for residents and their guests. Provide a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Promptly and warmly greet residents and their guests in the dining room or other designated dining space and take all food orders in an efficient, effective manner, following the established steps of service.
  • Read, understand, follow, and verbally communicate menus, diet orders, and diet extensions.
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of all menu items and ingredients. As requested, advise residents and/or their guests on appropriate combinations of beverages and food. Accommodate reasonable requests and note preferences. As needed, demonstrate knowledge of specialized diets and allergens.
  • Communicate directly with back-of-the-house staff to ensure correct delivery of orders and all special requests are addressed and accommodated.
  • Promptly address and correct any complaints or issues. Relay relevant information, concerns, or complaints directly to supervisor or event/shift lead personnel.
  • Maintain a high-level of sensitivity and confidentiality regarding any resident or guest personal or medical information that shared or overheard.
  • At all times exhibit exceptional communication skills, ability to get along well with others, demonstrate flexibility and patience along with an interest in people. Must be willing to verbally engage and communicate with residents and their guests as well as staff members.
  • Serve food promptly and professionally following the established steps of service. Always maintain safe food handling and sanitation standards. Follow up periodically to assist with any additional resident or guest needs and/or requests.
  • Serve meals in the formal dining room and for special or catered events.
  • Set up and break down of various dining venues for service or special events as assigned.
  • Assist with the bussing of tables or restocking of items as needed during special events and formal dining room meal service.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High-school education or equivalent required; this requirement does not pertain to individuals under age 18 who are currently enrolled in an accredited high school program or its equivalent.

Experience: One-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must be able to effectively communicate in English.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10 s and 100 s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
