Barash Media is hiring a General Manager!
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall operational, financial, and strategic performance of Town & Gown Magazine and The Centre County Gazette. This role provides leadership across revenue generation, sales management, staff supervision, client relations, and day-to-day business operations, ensuring sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and strong community presence. The GM serves as the central point of coordination between sales, editorial, production, distribution, and administration.
Responsibilities:- Drive revenue growth through advertising sales, sponsor ships, special sections, and partnerships
- Oversee sales strategy, pricing, forecasting, and performance tracking
- Manage and support sales staff, including goal-setting, coaching, and accountability
- Meet with current and prospective clients to build relationships, secure new business, and retain existing accounts
- Network within the community to expand brand visibility and business opportunities
- Lead, supervise, and support all staff across departments
- Handle hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
- Conduct employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions, including formal write-ups when necessary
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and professional workplace culture
- Approve and manage employee schedules and timesheets
- Oversee accounts payable and ensure timely processing of invoices and expense
- Oversee accounts receivable to make sure of timely payments
- Administer payroll operations, including reviewing employee work hours, tracking and approving time off, and preparing payroll for final submission and approval
- Update, maintain, and manage client and vendor contracts
- Monitor budgets, expenses, and overall financial performance
- Ensure operational procedures are followed consistently and efficiently
- Coordinate workflows between sales, editorial, design, printing, and distribution
- Manage publication timelines and ensure deadlines are met
- Oversee print and digital distribution operations, ensuring effective reach and delivery
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement process improvements
- Maintain and oversee social media presence
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging across print, digital, and social platforms
- Support promotional efforts for issues, special editions, and events
- Represent the publications at community events, meetings, and networking functions
- Develop and implement short- and long-term operational and revenue strategies
- Analyze performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed
- Identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and innovation
- Serve as a key advisor to ownership on business performance and strategic direction
- Perform additional general management duties as required to support the success of both publications
Compensation is $80,000 - $85,000 a year depending on prior experience plus commission.
This is not a remote job. Candidates already in the State College area preferred.
