Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Experience

  • One (1) year of experience preferred performing radiologic procedures in a hospital, clinic, or physician’s office
Radiologic TechnologistPosition Summary

Prepares patients for examinations, explains procedures, and responds to patient questions. Performs diagnostic radiologic procedures as ordered by physicians while ensuring patient safety, image quality, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Knowledge of radiologic equipment, procedures, and safety hazards, including proper body mechanics and patient movement
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and staff
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform minor adjustments

License / Certification / Registration

  • Registered with the ARRT in Radiology
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per American Heart Association standards, renewed every two years
Essential Functions

Patient Care and Technical Duties

  • Greets patients courteously and verifies patient identity using two identifiers (name and date of birth)
  • Reviews exam requests and evaluates orders for appropriateness
  • Explains procedures in terms patients can understand
  • Coordinates scheduling and orders with physician offices and nursing staff
  • Prepares and positions patients for examinations using appropriate techniques
  • Obtains correct imaging views for diagnostic purposes
  • Operates CR, DR, and Fluoroscopy rooms safely and efficiently
  • Performs equipment startup and shutdown procedures
  • Operates CR readers and printers
  • Transfers images to PACS, scans documents, and routes studies appropriately
  • Changes exam priority to STAT or URGENT when necessary
  • Assists Radiologists and Fluoroscopy Technologists during fluoroscopic and special procedures
  • Transports and operates portable radiographic equipment in:
    • Emergency Department
    • Operating Room
    • PACU
    • Nursing units
  • Uses proper sterile technique in the operating room and during applicable procedures
  • Prepares and administers IV and oral contrast media as required
  • Verbalizes and follows protocols for contrast reactions and documentation
  • Documents patient symptoms, history, imaging limitations, exam date/time, and technologist initials in PACS
  • Maintains assigned rooms and keeps work areas clean and orderly
  • Demonstrates radiation safety practices in accordance with ALARA standards
  • Escorts patients throughout the department and hospital as needed
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors

Clerical and Administrative Duties

  • Monitors workflow using PACS, image release systems, and CD burners
  • Assists with office functions as needed
  • Performs clerical tasks during off shifts

Quality Assurance and Education

  • Complies with and performs assigned quality assurance duties
  • Explains policies, procedures, and clerical functions to radiology students as directed
Non-Essential Functions
  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned
