POSITION SUMMARY
Prepare patients for examinations, explain procedures and respond to patient questions. Perform diagnostic procedures for patients as ordered by physicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs patient care/technical duties and procedures in an accurate and timely fashion.
Greets each patient in a pleasant manner. Reviews requests and evaluates order for appropriate exam and diagnosis. Always checks for two identifiers:
Name and Date of Birth. Explains the procedure in terms that the patient understands. Contacts the appropriate individuals for proper scheduling/orders: doctor’s offices and/or nurses. Prepares and positions patients for examinations. Determines and uses proper technique to position patient for view/examination. Takes correct views for examination. Demonstrates the ability to operate CR, Fluoro and DR rooms safely and efficiently. Knows how to operate CR readers and printers.
Performs proper start up and shut down of equipment. Knows how to transfer images to PACS, scan documents and route. Knows how to change priority to “STAT” or “URGENT” when deemed necessary. Assists the Radiologist and/or Fluoro Tech during fluoroscopic and special procedure examinations. Moves portable radiographic equipment for various procedures within the following departments Emergency Dept., Operating Room, PACU and Nursing departments.
While in operating room and for various procedures within the Radiology department, uses proper sterile technique during examination. Prepares IV and Oral contrast media for use, and administers contrast media as needed. Verbalizes the specific steps taken for contrast reaction and documentation. Documents patient symptoms, history, imaging limitations, date, time of study, and technologist initials in PACS. Performs other related technical patient care duties as assigned.
Maintains room assignments. Keeps work area clean and orderly. Demonstrates appropriate radiation safety practices and promotes radiation safety of the patient and staff, applying practices consistent with “As Low As Reasonably Achievable” (ALARA) standards. Escorts patients throughout department and/or hospital. Provides great customer service to patients, staff and/or anyone else they come in contact with. Performs clerical duties in an efficient, timely, and accurate fashion.
Monitors the workflow process utilizing PACS, Image release, and CD burner. Assists in office functions as needed. Performs office tasks during off shifts. Complies with and performs quality assurance duties as assigned. Explains policies, procedures and clerical functions to radiology students as directed.
