Job Description:

Responsible to Unit Director for overall nursing practice. Includes the responsibility for assessment of childbearing women (adolescence to middle adulthood), neonates, and family needs, the development of a plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of nursing care based on outcomes for the population served.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting women and infants to attain and maintain optimum health, including assessing patient and family's developmental level and health status.
  • Performing initial assessment and stabilization of the neonate.
  • Developing a plan of care based on identified physical and learning needs.
  • Teaching self-care and/or the care of the newborn to patients and families.
  • Promoting understanding of the influence of family relationships on health status.
  • Identifying and intervening with vulnerable patients and families-at-risk to prevent potential developmental and health problems.
  • Promoting an environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth and development, wellness, and promoting recovery from illness.
  • Assisting patients and families to understand and cope with women's health issues and childbirth.
  • Maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in the care of women and infants.

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required.
  • Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
  • Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
  • Holds the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification and renews NRP every two years.
  • Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
