Hours:
Part-time, 20 hrs a week, flexible schedule. One year contract with strong likelihood to renew annually.

Tides is a specialized grief support organization. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced licensed therapist to join our team as an independent contractor, focusing on providing essential grief-specific support and mental health services to children and teens in-person at our facility in State College, PA. This is a part-time position governed by a maximum weekly workload limit of 20 hours and a defined annual budget ceiling for Tides direct payments.
The role offers flexible scheduling within a unique, mission-aligned Fee-For-Service (FFS) financial model.
- Provide high-quality individual and family therapy sessions, specializing in grief-specific loss and bereavement, to the identified population (children and adolescents) exclusively in-person.
- Conduct clinical assessments, develop treatment plans and maintain meticulous client records in compliance with all ethical, legal and organizational standards.
- Manage two primary service streams: insured clinical services and Tides direct-paid services (Uninsured FFS and Program Support).
- Actively participate in program support duties such as community crisis support, terminally ill support, education or other program needs, excluding Tides Night and school-based programming).
- Manage all insurance billing processes for Insured Clinical Services, including collections and contributing the agreed-upon share to Tides Programs for administrative support.
- Participate in fundraising efforts as needed
- Help staff community awareness events
- Current, active and unencumbered clinical license in Pennsylvania (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPC)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience providing psychotherapy to children and adolescents, with specialized training or extensive experience in grief, loss and trauma.
- Proven ability to manage billing and documentation processes efficiently.
- Commitment to the Tides mission and serving diverse, high-need populations.
- Due to the nature of Tides’ programs and the participants we serve, we ask that individuals who have been active volunteers with Tides between 2023 and the present not apply for this role.
- Must obtain child abuse clearance, PA State police criminal background check, and FBI clearance (if needed).
