Ferguson Township, PA (pop. 19,236) seeks collaborative, strategic and experienced candidates for its next Township Manager. The salary range is $128,758 – $204,667. Residency within the Township is required within one year of appointment. A generous benefit and retirement package is also offered by the Township.
The Township Manager serves as the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer under the Home Rule Charter, accountable directly to the five-member Board of Supervisors. This executive role provides leadership, direction, and oversight for all Township operations, ensures compliance with local and state laws, and advances high-quality public services for the community.
Ferguson Township is a Home Rule Municipality located in the beautiful Centre County Region of Pennsylvania, a region that is home to Penn State University and all the vibrancy and vitality of a university community. The Township is one of six municipalities participating in the Centre Region Council of Governments (COG), providing coordinated regional services to a community of approximately 95,000 residents.
The Township maintains a strong financial position, supported by a five-year Capital Improvement Program and long-range planning practices. The Township operates with a 2026 annual budget of $19.1 million and 84 FTEs. The Township is organized into five departments:
Administration, Finance and Tax, Planning and Zoning, Police and Public Works. Fire Services are provided by the COG.
- Supervise all Township departments, commissions, authorities, and offices established under the Home Rule Charter.
- Oversee all municipal functions including public works, engineering, zoning, police, planning, budget/finance, HR, and administrative services.
- Manage hiring, appointments, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and personnel transitions.
- Represent the Township in dealings with other governmental entities and negotiate intergovernmental agreements.
- Serve as Township spokesperson, coordinate communications with the public and media.
- Maintain the fiscal integrity of the Township through sound financial practices.
- Master’s degree in public administration, business, or engineering and at least 5 years of substantial public-sector administrative experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in the same fields and 8 years of progressively responsible administrative or executive experience.
- Effective communication, budgeting, planning, leadership, problem-solving, and local government operational skills.
- Excellent judgment, confidentiality, and ability to collaborate effectively with elected officials, staff, and the public.
