GENERAL

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Grounds Technician’s primary function is to operate zero turn mowers, walk behind mowers and various power tools to maintain right of ways (R.O.W.) along highways, secondary roads, etc. while maneuvering around traffic structures, debris, and foliage. Operates equipment in compliance with City operating policies, procedures, and safety practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Operate zero turn mowers, walk behind mowers and other equipment on various terrains performing mowing and vegetation removal on right of ways (R.O.W.)
  • Maintain road rights-of-way and easements using gas powered weed-eaters/trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
  • Pick up litter on road right of ways as necessary.
  • Use chainsaw and/or pole saw to cut tree debris or logs & brush fallen in R.O.W.; move debris to staging areas for appropriate removal.
  • Maintain hand tools and power equipment such as chain saws, edgers, weed eaters, push and/or riding mowers, tractors, etc.
  • Perform daily inspections of company equipment and vehicles.
  • Utilize all appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • May perform special projects related to various aspects of the City’s upkeep as assigned by supervisor.
  • May be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be proficient with operating zero turn mowers, walk behind mowers and weed-eaters/trimmers.
  • Must know how to pull a trailer attached to a standard pick-up truck.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and adhere to all safety rules and City safety policies
  • Ability to work independently and lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to work alternating shifts, hours, and days as needed.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • 1-3 prior years of previous described operating experience.
  • Experience related to agricultural equipment.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possesses a valid Driver’s License
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Direct deposit and social security card are required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is mainly outdoors; physical fitness and some lifting is required.
