Position Function

The Coordinator of Orientation and Events will report to the Director of Orientation and Events. This position is responsible for communication and logistical efforts within the Office of Orientation and Events. It utilizes a CRM system to assist in the planning and implementation of recruitment events and new student Orientation program and supervises student workers within the office.

Responsibilities
  • Primary staff member overseeing email and phone communication, including coverage of the phone and email.
  • Utilize the CRM (Slate) system and other technologies needed to coordinate with event planning, including collaboration and planning of all pre‑ and post‑event communications.
  • Responsible for Orientation logistics and planning including event management, room reservations, meal planning, AV needs, and accommodations.
  • Responsible for information/instructional media with the Marketing team and MSU TV Center for Orientation.
  • Updating communication plans and website content.
  • Partner with the Division of Student Affairs and ITS on updates.
  • Partner with Transportation (parking, golf carts, shuttles) on needs with events and Orientation.
  • Oversee the Campus Partner and Services Fair with Orientation sessions.
  • Partner with Special Population groups for Orientation (ACCESS, Promise Program, Summer Bridge, CFR, etc.).
  • Serve on the individual interview community for Orientation Leader selection.
  • Attend Orientation Leader professional development trips, community service projects, and semesterly meetings.
  • Attend and participate in the Orientation Leader Retreat.
  • Supervision of student workers within the Office of Orientation and Events.
  • Other tasks related to Orientation.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 0‑2 years' experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with Slate Technolutions software, and other similar CRM systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills, including experience in supervision.
  • Well‑developed interpersonal, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independent self‑starter with strong work ethic.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control, interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position;

involves conflict‑resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
