The Kalbasi Laboratory at Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 to join a vibrant team working to tackle the problem of immunotherapy resistance in cancer, especially sarcoma. The work will occur at the intersection of immunology and cancer biology, using preclinical models and samples from patients treated on clinical trials. The individual will perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct and analyze experiments.

The Kalbasi Lab is administratively situated within the Stanford University School of Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology and will be affiliated with the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy  an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center the Stanford Cancer Institute is a dynamic and stimulating place to work as it maintains the highest level of scientific rigor, institutional support, and coordination for the complete range of cancer-related research, including basic, translational, clinical and population-based science.

Duties include:

  • Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
  • Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
  • Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience in immunology and molecular biology.
  • Ability to supervise and train lab helper and students working in the labs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot lab equipment malfunctions and arrange for service if necessary.
  • Ability to keep inventory of supplies and place orders; ability to operate a computer and software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain records accurately, thoroughly and on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to write technical material in scientific language.
  • Skills in conducting literature search and retrievals.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Preferred experience with flow cytometry data analysis software.
  • Preferred experience with statistical software such as Graph Pad Prism or R.
  • Ability to work independently.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.
