Data Scientist, Research Scientist
Life Science Research Professional 1 at Stanford University summary:
This role involves supporting a multidisciplinary team conducting large-scale electrophysiology research to study brain cognition using advanced recording technologies such as Neuropixels probes. The Life Science Research Professional 1 assists with experimental setup, maintenance of equipment, data collection coordination, and protocol development in neuroscience and AI-related projects. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and experience in electrophysiology, with duties requiring physical activity and adherence to safety protocols in research environments.
Andreas Tolias’ research team is seeking a talented life science research professional to join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers working on large scale technologies for recording brain activity in complex behavioral paradigms. The ideal candidate will have experience working with or large scale electrophysiology approaches. This LSRP will be involved in exciting projects studying brain cognition using state of the art facilities and ultra-high density electrophysiological recordings including Neuropixels probes.
The applicant will support a team of leading researchers in experimental neuroscience, computational neuroscience, and machine learning in an effort to discover algorithmic principles that bridge artificial and natural intelligence and link brains to intelligent machines. The goal of the team is to understand the brain’s mechanisms of intelligence and engineer smarter AI.
If you are excited to work at the interface of neuroscience, artificial intelligence and cognitive science–to understand the brain’s mechanisms of perception and cognition and to engineer less artificial, more intelligent machines–apply to join our team.
Duties include:
- Assists the Experimental Development team in daily readiness for electrophysiology experiments, including 3d printing supplies for recordings, assembling and validating new recording equipment and setting up Neuropixels probe microdrives for use by the Data Acquisition team.
- Maintain usage logs and documentation for experimental equipment for electrophysiology set ups and recording equipment..
- Works closely with collaborators on NHP projects and data collection.
- Assists with protocol development for experimental development.
- Regularly inspects and maintains experimental equipment to maintain large scale electrophysiology recordings.
- Interacts and coordinates with the Data Acquisition team lead in order to maintain systematic workflow for success of experiments..
- Assists the Experimental Development team as needed for other projects related to neurophysiology and task design and training.
- * Other duties may also be assigned
