Building and Land Technology (BLT) is now hiring a Water Taxi Captain for the 2026 season!
We are seeking an outgoing, OUPV Licensed (6‑pack), Limited OUPV, or Master 25T Captain to operate the Harbor Point Water Taxi (Pontoon Vessel) across the West Branch channel in Stamford Harbor, transporting visitors, guests, and both commercial and residential tenants.
This is a part‑time, seasonal position. The Water Taxi runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Thursday afternoon – Sunday (with additional holidays). Multiple shifts are available.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operate an uninspected vessel of less than 100 GRT, equipped with propulsion machinery, carrying six or fewer passengers.
- Perform daily operational inspections: vessel cleanliness, engine performance, oil levels, navigational lights, horn, fuel, battery, hull, lines, fenders, additional lighting, Bimini frame & cover.
- Fuel vessel, add oil, change battery, and light bulbs as needed.
- Perform daily safety inspections: all safety equipment such as life vests, life rings, lifelines/buoys, VHF radio, navigational lights, first‑aid equipment, fire extinguishers, ladder deployment/retrieval, anchor deployment and setting.
- Manage daily reports: trips, maintenance, fuel, passenger activity, statistical demands, and incidents.
- Maintain vessel in excellent condition, inspecting and covering it at the end of each shift.
- Maintain a clean, pleasant, and safe atmosphere for all, including team members.
- Greet all visitors, guests, and tenants with exceptional care and provide five‑star customer service, answering questions and sharing local knowledge as requested.
- Active/Current OUPV License (6‑pack), Limited OUPV, or Master 25T.
- Compliance with DOT‑approved drug and alcohol testing program, including pre‑hire screening and periodic checks.
- Ability to swim.
- Capacity to lift 40 lbs.
- Knowledge of VHF radio etiquette.
- Ability to maintain poise in a high‑impact, dynamic work environment.
- Flexibility to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours (if needed).
- Training and certification in First Aid, CPR, Vessel Fire Safety Knowledge, and “Man overboard” sequence (not required).
