Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care:
    The Physician Assistant (PA) or the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team. The NP/PA collaborates with the attending supervising/collaborating physician(s) in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, policy, protocols and clinical pathways; may provide autonomous team-based care. Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review orders/diagnostic tests, formulate and manage treatment plans.

    May perform procedures, prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines. In some specialties, may have autonomous practice managing certain patient populations. May function as first or second assistant on operative cases, within scope and prerequisites. Other clinical duties as required by departmental goals and guidelines, including responding to emergencies within YNHHS parameters.
  • Patient Education & Psychosocial Support:
    Educate patients/families on care and resources; discharge planning and treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians. Provide psychosocial support to patients and families as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Information Management:
    Ensure appropriate documentation within hospital and regulatory requirements and protect information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
  • Quality Management:
    Demonstrate professional ethical behavior; ensure compliance with patient-related healthcare regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Professional Development:
    Engage in projects to maintain and advance professional competency; serve as a clinical resource; participate in orientation, safety reporting, mentorship, and potential research or quality improvement activities.
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
Experience
  • Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the YNHHS Medical Staff and go through credentialing; evidence of current competence and letters of reference may be required.
Licensure
  • Active PA Certification by NCCPA;
    Connecticut State PA License; ACLS/BLS as indicated; DEA license if required.
  • PALS/NRP as indicated for neonatal care; other state or specialty certifications as appropriate for position profile.
