Day Centre Support - Stamford Hill AJEX House
We are seeking volunteers to support the Day Centre, with opportunities to run activities such as quizzes, discussion groups or other engaging sessions. Responsibilities include supporting the wellbeing of local members and helping to create a welcoming environment each week.
- Attend the session each week
- Support the wellbeing of the small group of local members
- Help to set up the space before the session begins
- Assist with taking lunch orders and collecting payments
- Serve tea and coffee throughout the day
- Support Jewish Care staff in delivering and participating in activities (creative ideas welcome)
- Join in with and assist during Jewish celebrations, significant days and special occasions
- Help to pack down and tidy up at the end of the day
- Confidently engage with a diverse range of people and enjoy helping others
- A strong understanding of issues that affect people in later life
- Reliability, consistency and dependability
- Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental attitude
- A genuine interest in supporting older people and enriching their day
- Flexibility and a can-do attitude
- Willingness to get involved, from setting up to making tea
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, to stay within the role’s boundaries and know when to seek advice or report concerns
Training is available so volunteers can carry out their roles to the highest professional standards, develop new skills, build confidence, make new friends and take on new and increasingly responsible tasks.
