Contractor – External Communications Specialists
Location: Stamford, CT (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Contract Duration: 9 Months (FTE Leave Coverage)
Pay Rate: $28–30/hour (BR)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Business Hours
Role OverviewThe External Communications Contractor will support and execute our external communications and media relations strategy to strengthen and protect the company’s corporate reputation. This role plays a critical part in advancing our sustainability narrative and supporting proactive and reactive media relations activities across the region.
The contractor will partner closely with regional leadership, business units, global communications teams, and external agencies to deliver integrated, high-impact communications programs.
Key Responsibilities External Communications & Corporate Reputation- Develop and execute sustainability-focused external communication strategies for in close collaboration with global sustainability, communications, and business teams.
- Support annual strategic communication plans for our Consumer Brands, Adhesive Technologies, and key regional functions.
- Elevate our sustainability reputation through consistent, measurable, and best-practice communications.
- Support regional media relations strategy, including proactive outreach and reactive media response.
- Develop key messaging, media briefs, Q&A documents, fact sheets, and press releases.
- Build and maintain relationships with trade, regional, and local media across North America.
- Partner with Public Affairs and Operations teams on local press strategies for priority manufacturing sites.
- Monitor media coverage and prepare reporting and insights for leadership.
- Prepare executives and leaders for press interviews, public speaking engagements, and media-facing government affairs activities.
- Support crisis and issues management with messaging development, monitoring, and reporting.
- Ensure consistent integration of global corporate messaging into regional media communications.
- Assist with oversight of external agency partners supporting media and sustainability communications, including scope alignment and spend tracking.
- Collaborate effectively with global and cross-functional stakeholders across multiple time zones.
- Partner with internal communications teams to ensure alignment between internal and external messaging.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in external communications and media relations.
- Demonstrated success improving corporate reputation with measurable outcomes.
- Proven experience in media relations strategy, planning, key message development, media training, and press engagement.
- Experience managing or working with external communications or PR agencies.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong analytical, organizational, and presentation abilities.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at junior, mid, and senior leadership levels.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, global, and multi-time-zone environment.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and resilient under pressure.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and creatively deliver results within a global organization.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with media and social media monitoring tools preferred.
- This role is a contract position covering FTE leave.
- Hybrid requirement: 3 days per week onsite in Stamford, CT.
