Job Title: External Communications Consultant
Location: Stamford, CT - Hybrid (3 days in office)

The External Communications Consultant will support and execute external communication and media relations strategies for a North American organization, with a strong focus on sustainability and corporate reputation. This role partners closely with regional and global teams to deliver strategic messaging, manage media engagement, and support issues and crisis communications during FTE leave coverage.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute external communications plans supporting sustainability initiatives and key business units across North America.
- Support media relations strategy through proactive outreach, reactive media response, monitoring, and performance reporting.
- Create and distribute press materials, including press releases, media briefs, Q&A documents, and fact sheets.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and global communications teams to ensure message alignment and execution of communications events.
- Prepare executives and leaders for media interactions, interviews, public speaking, and press-related activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with regional trade and local media, coordinating with public affairs and operations teams as needed.
- Support crisis and issues management with messaging development and media monitoring.
- Assist in managing external agency partners, including scope, direction, and spend oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related discipline.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in communications and media relations, with measurable reputation-building results.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing media relations strategies, including planning, messaging, outreach, and reporting.
- Experience managing external communications or PR agencies.
- Advanced writing and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex topics for diverse audiences.
- Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional and global stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with media and social monitoring tools preferred.
