About the role

As a Business Analyst – P&C Insurance, you will make a meaningful impact by supporting complex business and technology transformation initiatives for insurance clients. You will be a key member of consulting and delivery teams, working closely with underwriting, claims, policy administration, billing, and IT stakeholders to translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements.

This role is ideal for an experienced Business Analyst with strong Property & Casualty insurance domain knowledge, hands‑on exposure to legacy platforms (AS400/Mainframe), and a solid understanding of modern integrations, APIs, and data‑driven solutions.

In this role, you will:
Business Analysis & Domain Leadership
  • Elicit, analyze, and document business and functional requirements across core P&C insurance domains, including:
    • Policy Administration
    • Underwriting
    • Claims
    • Billing & Payments
    • Rating and Pricing
  • Act as a trusted bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring alignment on scope, requirements, and solution design.
  • Perform current‑state and future‑state process analysis to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support regulatory, compliance, and product change initiatives specific to Property & Casualty insurance.
Systems & Technology Engagement
  • Work closely with legacy insurance platforms operating on AS400 and Mainframe environments.
  • Analyze and document batch jobs, data flows, file layouts, and system interfaces.
  • Collaborate on modernization initiatives, including:
    • API‑based integrations
    • Data migration and transformation
    • Legacy‑to‑digital coexistence models
  • Support integration testing and user acceptance testing (UAT), ensuring solutions meet business and technical expectations.
Data, Integration & Quality Support
  • Write and review SQL queries to support data analysis, reconciliation, and validation.
  • Understand and document REST‑based API specifications using JSON.
  • Work with data models, schemas, and insurance data elements across multiple systems.
  • Support reporting and analytics requirements through accurate data mapping and validation.
Agile Delivery & Execution
  • Participate in Agile or hybrid delivery models, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and story elaboration.
  • Create detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and functional documentation.
  • Support defect triage, root cause analysis, and release readiness activities across delivery cycles.
Work model

This role supports client‑facing consulting engagements and may require regular collaboration with client and Cognizant teams, either onsite or in a hybrid model depending on project requirements.

What you must have to be considered Experience
  • 5–7 years of experience as a Business Analyst within Property & Casualty Insurance.
  • Proven experience working with policy administration, claims, underwriting, or billing systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with AS400 / Mainframe‑based insurance applications.
Technical & Analytical Skills
  • Strong understanding of AS400 / iSeries and mainframe concepts, including batch processing, jobs, and file‑based integrations.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • APIs (REST, JSON, basic API lifecycle)
    • Relational databases (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, or similar)
    • SQL for data analysis and validation
  • Experience documenting system integrations, data flows, and technical dependencies.
Documentation & Communication
  • Expertise in BRDs, FRDs, functional specifications, use cases, and user stories.
  • Strong attention to detail and high standards for documentation quality.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business‑friendly language.
These will help you succeed
  • Experience with core P&C platforms such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, or similar solutions.
  • Exposure to cloud‑based insurance platforms or core system modernization programs.
  • Knowledge of E&S or specialty insurance lines.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart, Swagger, or Postman.
  • Strong stakeholder management, problem‑solving skills, and comfort working in complex, multi‑system environments.
