About the Position

The Solar Designer (Repair & Remediation Projects) is responsible for evaluating, redesigning, and implementing engineering solutions for existing solar energy systems that require repairs, performance upgrades, or compliance corrections. This role involves detailed technical analysis, site assessments, system redesign, and coordination with field teams to ensure that repaired or modified systems meet current codes, industry standards, and optimal performance goals.

This position bridges engineering design, field troubleshooting, and operations support, making it essential for maintaining and enhancing the long-term reliability and performance of solar installations.

Responsibilities
  • System Assessment & Troubleshooting

    • Consult with Senior Energy Managers and Production Engineers for technical reviews and site assessments of underperformance or malfunctioning solar systems.
    • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, or design-related issues impacting system output, safety, or compliance.
    • Review as‑built drawings, monitoring data, and inspection reports to identify the root cause of system issues.
    • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring problems and develop corrective action plans.
  • Repair & Remediation Design

    • Develop repair and redesign plans for damaged, degraded, or non‑compliant solar installations.
    • Create or update CAD drawings, one‑line diagrams, and system schematics reflecting proposed remediation work.
    • Redesign arrays or reconfigure system layouts to improve performance, safety, and code compliance.
    • Specify replacement components (e.g., modules, inverters, racking systems, BOS equipment) that meet current standards and compatibility requirements.
    • Work with SEOMs to ensure all redesigns are cost‑effective and feasible for implementation in the field.
  • Compliance & Standards

    • Ensure all designs meet relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IEC, UL, local AHJ requirements).
    • Update legacy solar systems to align with new electrical codes, utility interconnection rules, or building permit requirements.
    • Provide engineering support during AHJ inspections and help resolve compliance‑related deficiencies.
  • Collaboration & Coordination

    • Work closely with SEOMs and contractors to guide the implementation of repair designs.
    • Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely sourcing of required materials for remediation projects.
    • Support project managers in planning schedules, cost estimates, and installation guidance for design corrections.
    • Provide technical input regarding system deficiencies and proposed solutions.
  • Documentation & Reporting

    • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including revised layouts, wiring diagrams, and component specifications.
    • Generate technical reports summarizing findings, proposed solutions, and expected system improvements post‑repair.
    • Maintain accurate records of system modifications.
  • Performance Optimization

    • Collaborate with the Production Engineers on monitoring data to evaluate energy production and…
