Job Description
OverviewPerforms intermediate unskilled work assisting with the implementation of recreational activities. Does related work as required. Duties are performed under the regular supervision of a Recreation Program Supervisor or a Recreation Leader IV.
The starting pay of the Recreation Leader I is from $12.77/hour to $15.97/hour, based on experience. The starting pay of the Recreation Leader II is from $14.63/hour to $18.29/hour based on experience. The starting pay of the Recreation Leader III is from $15.66/hour to $19.58/hour based on experience. The starting pay of the Recreation Leader IV is from $17.94/hour to $22.43/hour based on experience.
The Recreation Leader positions each require a minimum age to qualify. Please choose your age as of June 8, 2026.
Responsibilities- Assisting with the implementation of recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports and games, and camp activities.
- Opens and closes recreation facilities;
- Sets up program facilities, supplies, and equipment;
- Assists with scheduling events;
- Helps enforce standards of discipline and conduct by program participants;
- Assists in the organizing and preparation of recreational activities;
- Helps maintain stores and inventories of recreational equipment, materials, and supplies;
- Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment;
- Helps lead groups of participants in recreational activities;
- Provides information to the public regarding activities and programs;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Skills And Abilities
- Some knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation;
- Some knowledge of the equipment, techniques, and relevant rules of recreational programming;
- Some knowledge of personal computers and computer applications is helpful;
- Ability to assist in instructing common recreational activities;
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with other workers, program participants, and the general public;
- Ability to enforce rules and regulations and help maintain discipline;
- Ability to withstand exposure to direct sunlight, heat and humidity.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the tenth grade, supplemented by coursework in recreation, education, childcare or related field preferred; and some experience working with children of different ages and abilities, preferably in a recreational, state licensed or educational setting. Minimum age of 16 years old.
