This position maybe required to work day or night shift.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Investigates, evaluates, and screens potential candidates for the pretrial program utilizing a variety of intake and assessment processes.
- Prepares and presents court reports, criminal histories, and demographic information; meets with defendants after court and ensures the defendant understands the conditions of release and pretrial supervision requirements.
- Performs case management for supervised cases to ensure compliance with release conditions; maintains contact with treatment and other support programs to assess defendant's on-going status and eligibility.
- Conducts a variety of interviews to obtain and verify background information; makes recommendations to the courts concerning release and detention.
- Composes, prepares, and remits documentation for supervised defendants regarding compliance/non-compliance/violation status; prepares Capias Requests for those in violation and submits to the Commonwealth Attorney Office.
- Meets with supervised defendants to determine and discuss drug or mental health treatment, adjustments, or corrective action needs; assesses risk level and determines if additional drug or medical assessment is required.
- Coordinates and retrieves updated information about defendants from treatment facilities and the courts and legal counsels.
- Enforces department and program rules, regulations, and procedures to ensure safety and security of the facility, community, and defendant.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of internal and external files, records, and reports.
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or related field and moderate experience in counseling and rehabilitation in a correctional environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Obtain Commission as a Notary Public.
- Must obtain certifications from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) within six months.
- Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications for the position established by the Authority and the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
