Overview
Job Description for a Claims role with Travelers. This position is designed to develop skills for investigating, evaluating, negotiating and resolving claims on losses of lesser value and complexity. The role is 100% remote and may include a combination of mobile work and/or work from a primary residence. This position services Insureds/Agents in and around Chantilly, Fairfax, Sterling, Manassas, Springfield areas.
Residency or relocation to the assigned territory is required at the candidate's own expense.
- Complete required training to progress to the next level position (mix of online, virtual, classroom, and on-the-job training; travel may be required).
- Handle 1st party property claims of moderate severity and complexity as assigned.
- Establish accurate scope of damages for building and contents losses and prepare written or computer-assisted estimates.
- Investigate and evaluate relevant facts to determine coverage, damages, business interruption calculations and liability for first party property claims under various policies; secure statements as appropriate.
- Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
- Determine appropriate settlement amounts using independent judgment and various valuation methods; validate contractor estimates and appraisals; apply applicable limits and deductibles.
- Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits; write denial letters and complex correspondence.
- Assess extent of damages and manage damages using cost evaluation tools; meet quality standards per Knowledge Guides.
- Maintain diary system and data/documents per procedures; manage file inventory for timely resolutions; comply with state regulations where applicable.
- Provide excellent customer service to insureds, agents and other stakeholders.
- Identify and refer claims to Travelers Special Investigations Unit, Subrogation Unit or Major Case Unit as appropriate.
- Perform administrative functions such as expense accounts and time off reporting; provide multi-line assistance as needed.
- May attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, trials and other legal proceedings as needed.
- Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED;
Bachelor’s Degree preferred or a minimum of two years of work or customer service experience. - Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer-centric approach; strong verbal and written communication; attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities; analytical thinking and sound judgment.
- Valid driver's license and valid passport; willingness to travel as needed.
- License requirements:
Insurance license(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements; obtain within three months of starting and maintain continuing education credits.
