Overview

Position Title: Optics Technician

Work Location: Contingent Hire aboard Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA

Security Clearance Requirement: Active Secret

The Optics Technician provides onsite technical support to the Electro-Optic Support Facility (EOSF) at Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), Quantico. This position supports the testing, maintenance, and operational readiness of electro-optical systems by executing established test procedures, maintaining test equipment, managing inventory accountability, and ensuring compliance with EOSF Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Optics Technician works under the direction of senior engineers or subject matter experts and plays a critical role in supporting government test and evaluation activities.

Responsibilities
  • Apply industry best practices and standards, leading-edge technology, and innovative solutions in support of the design, development, and testing of systems that combine electronics with optics.
  • Test a broad range of electro-optical systems including laser systems, image intensification systems, day optical systems, and thermal systems.
  • Actively participate in problem-solving and research avenues of technological application to accomplish short- and long-term program objectives.
  • Support the development and implementation of solutions to meet fiscal, technological and schedule constraints.
  • Conduct electro-optical system testing, monitoring and surveillance, test plan and method development support, test equipment upkeep, troubleshooting, maintenance, and maintenance documentation.
  • Support government shipping of equipment to and from the Electro-Optic Support Facility (EOSF) in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the EOSF.
  • Maintain accurate accountability and inventory control documentation of all equipment.
  • Support the planning, deployment, integration, operation and/or enhancement of state-of-the-art and/or legacy systems.
Education and Experience

Required

Education:

Associate’s degree or technical certificate in Optics, Photonics, Electronics, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline; OR relevant military technical training with 2-4 years of directly related experience.

Required Experience: 5 years of hands-on experience supporting optical or electro-optical systems

Certifications And Specific Qualifications
  • Equivalent to USMC MOS 2171 – electro-optical ordinance repairer
  • Must possess specific experience and expertise in operation, maintenance, and management of electro-optical, and imaging systems.
  • Must be U.S. citizen.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The duties of this position involve regular verbal communication and the ability to move throughout an office and laboratory setting, including periods of sitting and standing. The employee must be able to use hands and arms for operating equipment, handling materials, and reaching as needed. The position may occasionally require lifting or carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Adequate vision is necessary to perform job functions, including the ability to see objects at varying distances, distinguish colors, maintain peripheral awareness, and adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.

Work is performed primarily indoors in a professional office and technical facility environment. Adherence to established safety practices and the proper use of required safety equipment are expected. Travel Requirements

10% estimated travel throughout the year.
