Position OverviewThe Cloud Migration Engineer supports execution of RD’s cloud migration by performing hands‑on migration of applications and infrastructure across diverse operating systems. This role focuses on executing approved migration plans, validating system performance, and supporting accelerated migration timelines.
This role is primarily remote. However, occasional travel to government facilities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area may be required for stakeholder meetings, architecture reviews, or program milestones. Candidates must be willing and able to travel periodically as mission needs dictate.
Key Responsibilities- Execute application and infrastructure migrations using lift‑and‑shift, re‑platforming, and refactoring approaches
- Support migration of systems across Windows, Linux, AIX, and Solaris environments
- Develop and follow detailed migration runbooks and cutover procedures
- Participate in pilot migrations and validate performance, security, and functionality post‑migration
- Collaborate with cloud architects and Dev Sec Ops engineers on infrastructure builds and automation
- Support parallel migration tracks (dev/test/cert/prod) to accelerate delivery timelines
- Provide surge support during critical migration and cutover windows
- Assist with post‑migration stabilization, tuning, and configuration hardening
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience migrating applications and infrastructure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
- Experience with virtualization, server OS administration (Windows, Linux, AIX, Solaris), and cloud IaaS/PaaS services
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Power Shell, Bash, Python, etc.)
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, Cloud Formation)
- Relevant cloud certification (e.g., AWS Sys Ops Administrator, Azure Administrator Associate)
