Organizational Objective / Goal
To provide parking enforcement and support services for the University of Mary Washington as part of the Division of Business Services and Office of Parking Management.
General Description of PositionAid and direct the campus community and visitors regarding parking services. Enforce University’s parking regulations, issuing citations as needed, place signage including reserved and temporary parking signs. Accurately register vehicles and issue parking permits. Perform general office and other duties as assigned. Familiarize students on UMW policies and regulations concerning the operation of UMW/state owned vans, including behind‑the‑wheel familiarization.
Required KSAs / Competencies / Qualifications to Successfully Perform Their Work- Consistently provide exemplary customer service under sometimes difficult circumstances.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Use MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of tablet‑style devices.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work assigned shifts as scheduled between 7 AM‑7 PM Mon‑Fri; occasional weekend work hours may be required.
- Communicate with the general public in a respectful and effective manner.
- Ability to place temporary signage.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Ability to analyze needs and implement solutions for various requests for reserved and temporary parking. Knowledge of, or the ability to obtain such knowledge of, University parking regulations and City of Fredericksburg parking ordinances. Ability to generate reports and monitor key performance indicators within the parking operation.
Required EducationHigh School or equivalent training and experience.
Required ExperienceSome related job experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
Preferred EducationBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred ExperienceSome prior work experience in customer service or parking management, preferably in a higher education setting.
Required LicensurePossession of a valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record.
