Overview
The Youth Programs Lead is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of youth-focused programs and activities to include Before & After Care Programs, Summer and school break camps and manage the youth counselors. This role serves as a mentor and leader for youth participants, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. The Youth Programs Lead will work closely with staff, volunteers, community partners, and families to promote youth development and positive outcomes.
The Youth Programs Lead reports directly to the Youth Programs Director.
- Must work a minimum of 80% of the split shifts during the week
- Ensure Before & After program, summer camp and school break programs are staffed accurately
- Responsible for handling any issues that arise, and communicating directly with guardians
- Responsible for handling any behavioral issues that arise, and communicating directly with guardians
- Maintain and update all records required by the Virginia Department of Education (registration forms, allergies, medications, health history, waiver forms, check lists and all other participant files as needed)
- Create and follow daily activity schedules
- Address issues and concerns as they arise
- Maintain high standards in health and safety
- Establish and maintain contact with guardians regarding daily interactions, including children’s behavior
- Establish and maintain contact with guardians regarding all participants’ injuries
- Must be aware of youth participants’ allergies
- Coordinate activities for assigned group(s) to include, but not limited to, arts & crafts, games, sport activities, learning and development assignments
- Actively participate in all activities
- Supervise youth participants
- Ensure that all participants are provided with snacks and meals
- Ensure participants board the proper transportation in order to depart facility in a safe and timely manner
- Ensure participants arrive from associated schools in a safe and timely manner
- Report all absent children to supervisor immediately
- Maintain proper ratios at all times
- Act as a role model for participants, demonstrating proper attitude and behavior at all times
- Remain calm and focused in an emergency situation
- Knowledge of VDSS Standards for licensed day care centers
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the Youth Programs Director and/or the General Manager
VAC)
A. Program leaders shall be at least 18 years of age, have fulfilled a high school program completion or the equivalent, and meet one of the following:
VAC;
- A one year early childhood certificate from a college or university that consists of at least 30 semester hours;
- A child development credential by an organization listed in § 22. of the Code of Virginia;
- A teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization; or
Within six months before being promoted or beginning work or one month after being promoted or beginning work, a minimum of 12 hours of training shall be received related to the care of children, including but not limited to:
