Psychosocial Substance Misuse Lead
We are looking for an experienced Psychosocial Substance Misuse Team Lead to work within our integrated multi‑disciplinary team at HMP Drake Hall, a busy female prison located near Eccleshall in Staffordshire. As the Psychosocial Lead you will manage and supervise Band 5 recovery workers, deliver effective treatment pathways, and take an active role in the prison drug strategy while fostering effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
- You will demonstrate skill and experience of providing evidence‑based psychosocial interventions supporting service users to make positive changes towards recovery.
- You will apply your skills and interventions to the care of service users with mild to moderate mental health needs that often co‑exist with substance misuse needs.
- You will be highly motivated and able to support and inspire others.
- You will supervise recovery workers to manage complex caseloads, manage group delivery and ensure adherence to pathways.
- You will possess excellent time‑management skills to organise workload within a busy prison site.
- You will be enthusiastic about working within an ever‑changing prison environment.
- You will work to assist service users to progress through their sentence and onto their resettlement in the community.
- You will work in a fully multi‑disciplinary team to provide varied and comprehensive interventions in line with the stepped care model. The team includes RMNs, RLDN, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Psychosocial Workers and team administrators.
- You will take an active role in the prison drug strategy whilst fostering effective working relationships with HMIP, prison colleagues and other stakeholders.
- You will produce reports and deliver information in relation to service delivery to senior management and key stakeholders, manage a multi‑disciplinary team in a custodial environment ensuring a high standard drug and alcohol recovery service is delivered in response to the needs of the service users as part of Inclusion and MPFT.
- Produce a full range of psychosocial interventions that motivate and support service users to achieve recovery and positive outcomes within a recovery‑orientated substance misuse treatment service.
- Be responsible for the provision of a drug and alcohol recovery service (incorporating assessment, recovery planning, casework coordination and psycho‑social interventions) to problem drug and alcohol users located within the prison establishment.
- Effectively supervise liaison and develop links with partner agencies to provide a through‑care service for prisoners from the point of entry into the prison system to release into the community so that re‑offending is reduced and the health, well‑being and social functioning of Service User is improved.
- Contribute and work within the prison and wider drug strategy.
- Implement Inclusion policies, protocols, SOPs and develop LOPs in conjunction with the clinical prescribing team and mental health team.
You will need to show compassion to work in a trauma‑informed way and be confident in supporting individuals in a challenging environment. As the Psychosocial Lead you will manage and supervise Band 5 Recovery Workers, demonstrate a good understanding of substance misuse and deliver effective treatment pathways, provide supervision, support and guidance to other members of the team and manage a caseload of people with complex needs.
