Support Medical Secretary role within the Spinal Team, Trauma & Orthopaedics at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Hours: 30 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a medical secretary within the Spinal Team, Trauma & Orthopaedics.
Main dutiesThe post holder is required to support the Medical Secretary Team Leader in delivering a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team. This includes inpatient waiting list management for the specialty in accordance with the Patient Access Policy, and communicating appointment and admission related information to patients and carers. The post holder will also type correspondence and/or transcribe and type up minutes as appropriate.
Responsibilities include prioritising own workload, ensuring clinical letters are typed in chronological order/clinical priority, and working effectively under pressure in a busy environment.
Will be required to support the Medical Secretary Team Leader and specialty team in inpatient waiting list management, considering national RTT rules and assisting in the appropriate utilisation of theatres.

Job responsibilities- Sort and distribute incoming/outgoing information promptly and ensure patient notes are requested and provided in a timely manner.
- Liaise with the medical team and appointments department to arrange, cancel or alter clinical commitments to support the smooth running of the department.
- Communicate information (written and verbal) with patients, staff and carers with tact and diplomacy, handling telephone and other communications with confidentiality.
- Good General Education to include GCSE English or equivalent
- Word processing or equivalent experience
- Secretarial/clerical background
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages
- Good communication
- Ability to work in a demanding, pressurised environment
- Team player
- Previous experience working in a healthcare environment
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of the Hospital EPR Systems
- Able to use own initiative
