Overview
Process and Chemical Engineering Industry Placement 2026 - 32745 at Environment Agency. 12-month industry placements starting in September, offering hands-on experience and opportunities to build skills related to environmental regulation, process safety, and industry oversight. You will rotate through Permitting, Local Operations, and Environment & Business and contribute to projects that balance environmental protection with economic benefit.
Responsibilities- Support UK businesses to reduce environmental impacts and improve process safety across chemicals, refineries, metals, and related sectors.
- Data management and analysis; evaluating environmental impact; developing environmental standards.
- Incident management, enforcement, and partnership working with public engagement.
- Learn and contribute within the EA Chemical Engineering group, focusing on professional development and peer support.
- Assist with reviewing permit applications and supporting regulatory officers; deliver a technical project as part of placement rotation.
- Hands-on experience across Permitting, Local Operations, and Environment & Business.
- Exposure to environmental regulation and compliance activities; opportunities to learn about carbon reduction and industrial transition.
- Opportunity to develop technical knowledge, data skills, and career prospects within the Environment Agency.
- You should be studying (or have studied) a Chemical or Process Engineering degree accredited by IChemE.
- Skills that will help you succeed include: team working, confidence with data, problem-solving, engineering knowledge, and health and safety awareness.
- UK, Commonwealth, or EEA national with right to work in the UK.
- Enrolled in an undergraduate degree (or integrated master’s), in their penultimate year, or graduated within the last year (from June 2025 onwards).
