SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant required
Academics are working with a delightful and well-resourced primary school located in the south of Stoke-on-Trent who are seeking a skilled and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a supply basis through the agency.
This is a long-term position working closely with a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, initially on a reduced timetable with the view of progressing to full-time hours until the end of the summer term.
The Role- Provide high-quality 1:1 support for a primary‑aged pupil with SEMH needs.
- Work initially on a reduced timetable, gradually increasing to full-time as the placement develops.
- Support the pupil in accessing learning, managing emotions, and engaging positively with the school environment.
- Implement tailored strategies to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies as needed.
- Maintain a calm, consistent, and nurturing approach at all times.
- The pupil has identified SEMH needs that can present as challenging behaviour.
- On occasions, the pupil may display physical aggression; therefore, experience with de‑escalation strategies and a strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice is highly beneficial.
- The ideal candidate will be confident, patient, and skilled in creating a safe, supportive learning atmosphere.
- Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Calm, resilient, and able to remain consistent under pressure.
- Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.
- Flexible, empathetic, and committed to long‑term support for the pupil.
