SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant required

Academics are working with a delightful and well-resourced primary school located in the south of Stoke-on-Trent who are seeking a skilled and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a supply basis through the agency.

This is a long-term position working closely with a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, initially on a reduced timetable with the view of progressing to full-time hours until the end of the summer term.

• Provide high-quality 1:1 support for a primary‑aged pupil with SEMH needs.
• Work initially on a reduced timetable, gradually increasing to full-time as the placement develops.
• Support the pupil in accessing learning, managing emotions, and engaging positively with the school environment.
• Implement tailored strategies to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies as needed.
• Maintain a calm, consistent, and nurturing approach at all times.

• The pupil has identified SEMH needs that can present as challenging behaviour.
• On occasions, the pupil may display physical aggression; therefore, experience with de‑escalation strategies and a strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice is highly beneficial.
• The ideal candidate will be confident, patient, and skilled in creating a safe, supportive learning atmosphere.

• Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Calm, resilient, and able to remain consistent under pressure.
• Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.
• Flexible, empathetic, and committed to long‑term support for the pupil.
