Job Description
Title: Plumber Master (2600000I)
Job Overview: The Plumber, Master will perform a variety of skilled, master level plumbing tasks in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems in school district buildings and facilities. This incumbent will also pull plumbing and gas permits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational- Perform skilled plumbing work at the master level; installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, urinals, showers, drinking fountains, icemakers, and water heaters
- Install and test back flow preventions; maintain and repair sprinkler systems
- Cut, ream, thread, solder, glue and connect metal, copper and plastic pipes and fittings
- Replace defective fixtures, regulators, controls, traps, valves, faucets, washers and gaskets
- Install water, gas and sewer lines; test for, locate and repair leaks in water, gas and sewer lines; open clogged drains, traps and fixtures; perform tests on gas appliances
- Plan and layout work projects using arithmetical computation
- Obtain necessary plumbing and gas permits
- Ensure that all safety precautions, regulations, and equipment are utilized properly, and that work complies with national, state, and local building codes
- Review work orders and building plans; procure materials and supplies
- Participate in work site set‑up and clean‑up activities to ensure a safe environment
- Keep records and prepare reports of work accomplished and materials used
- May supervise one or more employees and provide guidance and training

- High School Diploma or GED preferred or supplemented by completion of appropriate plumbing apprenticeship training required
- Master Plumber License
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Back‑Hoe Operator License preferred (or ability to obtain once hired)
- Back‑Flow Diverter Certification preferred (or ability to obtain once hired)
- Minimum of 5 years of considerable working experience as a plumber, including some commercial experience
- Ability to obtain a Reasonable Master Plumber License once hired
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Strong ability to perform master level plumbing tasks in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of plumbing
- Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, schematics, and manufacturers' manuals
- Ability to plan and layout work projects and estimate time/materials needed
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain good interpersonal relationships
The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee works in classrooms, offices, workstations, and meeting rooms. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work‑related items weighing less than 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. The employee may work prolonged or irregular hours and must maintain emotional control under stress.
